Art lovers should not miss the Irma Stern Museum, corner of Cecil and Chapel Roads, which is under the curatorship of UCT.
Irma Stern (1894 to 1966) is South Africa's most famous painter. After her studies at the Art Academy in Weimar (Germany) she returned in 1919 to Cape Town. Irma Stern painted in different styles, but eventually became the founder of the "African Impressionism". Her works were regarded as avantgarde by the conservative art scene of South Africa.
