The core of the city bowl; Adderley St. and Forechore, is almost exclusively a business + administration district with very few hotels and in the evenings it is quite dead. The action is to be found at the Artscape Theatre and in the nightlife in Long Street and its side streets, where there are a many nightclubs, bars and restaurants. Surely the opening of the new Convention Centre will revive the life of any part of the city centre. For more details see the pages on Conferencing, Long Street, and Theatre.
 The suburbs adjacent to the city bowl, Tamboerskloof, Oranjezicht und Gardens, have many hotels, guest houses and excellent restaurants. Life there is relatively quiet with a view of city and harbour or of Table Mountain and is, of course, close to the centre. You find here many old houses in the Victorian style with beautiful little gardens. Good quality shopping can be done at the small Gardens Shopping Centre. The German School is close by, and so the centre boasts a German butcher shop with snackbar.
